Waste=Food Response:
Model for the world on how to deminish/ abolish waste: Rohner Textile Factory and Nike
The Rohner Textile factory partnered with the top chemist in the world (Michael Braungart) in making 100% not only safe, non-toxic dyes, but dyes that are completely biodegradable and actually become food for regrowth.
Together, they came up with 16 dye colors that were just that, 100% biodegradable, non-toxic, food. From these 16 dyes, any color imaginable could be made. Perfection. Upcycleing at its finest.
This is called the "Cradle to Cradle" idea.
Using the "Cradle to Cradle" idea, Braungart came up with another genius idea. A book that could be completely up-cycled.
Up-cycled: the ability to be disassembled and restored to its natural condition.
Up-cycling: the system of purifying products so it can be up-cycled when coming back through the system.
This book was made completely out of up-cycled plastics. It was completely water proof and the ink 100% non toxic. Making extreme heat the only way of removal of said ink.
Nike has also done something amazing this this "Cradle to Cradle" idea in eliminating waste. They have taken shoes and completely eliminated the toxic adhesives that have proven to be harmful to the environment when in the wearing of their shoes.
They did this by using geometry and a number of techniques in order to be 100% ready for up-cycling and disassembly when necessary. Way to be NIKE!
Companies should learn from this. It saves money. I'll say it again, designing for disassembly SAVES COMPANY MONEY!
